Overview

Madagascar Lemur Lovers Tour is a 15-day private wildlife journey designed for travelers who want to experience Madagascar through its most famous animals: lemurs.

The route combines Andasibe for the Indri Indri, Ranomafana for bamboo lemurs and rainforest species, Anja Reserve for ring-tailed lemurs, and Berenty for Verreaux's sifakas and classic dry-forest photography.

Between the wildlife stops, the journey also includes central highland towns, craft villages, the Isalo region and southern landscapes, with hotel wording and accommodation style aligned with your previous sample itineraries.

Travel character: This wildlife and birdwatching journey combines private road travel, local park guides, rainforest walks, community reserve visits, southern dry forest discovery and photography-focused timing. The Fort Dauphin and Berenty section must be confirmed according to flight schedules and final logistics.

Welcome to Madagascar. On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your national accompanying guide and transferred to your hotel in Antananarivo.

The rest of the day is kept relaxed after the international flight. Depending on arrival time, a short briefing can be arranged to introduce the lemur-focused route, walking rhythm, wildlife expectations and practical details.

Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux, Palissandre Hotel, San Cristobal Boutique Hotel, or similar

After breakfast, drive east along the RN2 toward Andasibe. The road passes highland villages, rice fields and green hills as you approach the rainforest region.

Stop at Peyrieras Reserve for an easy first wildlife visit with chameleons, geckos, frogs, reptiles and butterflies. Continue to Andasibe and settle into the cool rainforest atmosphere. An optional night walk can be arranged in the evening.

Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, Feon'ny Ala Hotel, or similar

Start early for a guided visit of Analamazaotra Reserve, one of the best places in Madagascar to hear and possibly see the Indri Indri.

With a local guide, walk through the rainforest in search of indri families, brown lemurs, bamboo lemurs, birds, orchids, chameleons and frogs. The pace can be adapted for photography and wildlife observation.

Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, Feon'ny Ala Hotel, or similar

A second day in the Andasibe area gives more time for lemurs and rainforest photography. Depending on conditions and guest fitness, the visit can include Mantadia National Park or another nearby reserve.

This extra forest day improves the chance for wildlife observation and allows a more relaxed rhythm after the first Indri experience. A second optional night walk can be arranged for nocturnal species.

Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, Feon'ny Ala Hotel, or similar

After breakfast, leave Andasibe and return toward the central highlands before continuing south on the RN7.

The scenery changes from humid rainforest to terraced rice fields, red-earth villages and mountain landscapes. A stop can be made in Ambatolampy for local aluminum workshops before arriving in Antsirabe.

Accommodation: Couleur Cafe, Plumeria Hotel Antsirabe, Eco Lodge Les Chambres du Voyageur, or similar

Continue south through the highlands, with village scenery, rice terraces and rolling hills.

Stop in Ambositra, Madagascar's woodcarving center, before continuing toward Ranomafana. The landscape becomes greener and more humid as you approach one of the country's richest rainforest parks.

Accommodation: Setam Lodge, Thermal Hotel, Centrest Sejour, or similar

Start early for a guided visit of Ranomafana National Park. This rainforest is a key destination for lemur lovers, especially for bamboo lemurs and other humid-forest species.

With a local guide, search for Golden Bamboo Lemur, red-bellied lemur, Milne-Edwards' sifaka, birds, frogs, chameleons, orchids and tropical plants. The walk can be adapted to guest fitness and wildlife movement.

Accommodation: Setam Lodge, Thermal Hotel, Centrest Sejour, or similar

After breakfast, leave Ranomafana and travel back through the Betsileo highlands toward Ambalavao.

Depending on timing, enjoy a stop for Antemoro paper, silk weaving or mountain scenery. Overnight near Anja Reserve gives a comfortable rhythm before the ring-tailed lemur visit the next morning.

Accommodation: Betsileo Country Lodge, Tsienimparihy Lodge, Aux Bougainvillees, or similar

Visit Anja Community Reserve, one of Madagascar's best places to observe ring-tailed lemurs among granite rocks, dry forest pockets and mountain scenery.

After the visit, continue south across the Horombe Plateau toward Ranohira, gateway to Isalo. If timing allows, enjoy a sunset stop near the Window of Isalo.

Accommodation: Isalo Rock Lodge, Jardin du Roy, Relais de la Reine, Satrana Lodge, or similar

After breakfast, continue toward Madagascar's far south. This is a major logistics day and the final routing depends on domestic flight schedules, road conditions and the confirmed program.

The journey offers changing southern scenery, from open dry plains to mountain views and coastal influence as you approach the Fort Dauphin / Taolagnaro region.

Accommodation: Talinjoo Hotel, Croix du Sud, or best available hotel depending on final logistics

Drive west from Fort Dauphin toward Berenty Reserve, passing southern landscapes, sisal plantations, villages and the Mandrare River region.

On arrival, enjoy a first guided walk in Berenty. This classic reserve is excellent for relaxed lemur photography, especially ring-tailed lemurs and Verreaux's sifakas.

Accommodation: Berenty Lodge or similar

Today is dedicated to Berenty Reserve. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the best times for wildlife activity and photography.

With a local guide, explore gallery forest and dry forest trails for ring-tailed lemurs, Verreaux's sifakas, brown lemurs, sportive lemurs, birds and southern vegetation. Berenty is especially known for the famous dancing sifaka movement.

Accommodation: Berenty Lodge or similar

Enjoy a final early wildlife moment in Berenty before returning to Fort Dauphin / Taolagnaro.

On arrival, check in at the hotel and relax. If time allows, a short local visit can be arranged around the town, coastal viewpoints, market area or beach scenery.

Accommodation: Talinjoo Hotel, Croix du Sud, or similar

Transfer to the airport for the domestic flight back to Antananarivo according to the flight schedule.

On arrival in the capital, transfer to the hotel. This final overnight is recommended for a safer connection before the international departure and can also allow souvenir shopping or a farewell dinner.

Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux, Palissandre Hotel, San Cristobal Boutique Hotel, or similar

After breakfast, transfer to Ivato International Airport for your international departure.

Depending on flight time, a final craft market stop, short city visit or day-use arrangement can be organized. The tour ends after a complete lemur-focused journey through rainforest, highlands, community reserve, Isalo region and southern dry forest.
