Welcome to Madagascar. On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your national accompanying guide and transferred to your hotel in Antananarivo, locally known as Tana.
The day is kept relaxed after the international flight. Depending on arrival time, a short briefing can be arranged to explain the western route, wildlife timing, photography rhythm, ferry crossings and Tsingy visits.
Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux, Palissandre Hotel, San Cristobal Boutique Hotel, or similar
After breakfast, drive south through the central highlands. The road passes rice fields, red-earth villages, traditional brick houses and terraced hills.
A stop can be made in Ambatolampy for local aluminum workshops before continuing to Antsirabe, a cool highland town known for crafts, gemstones, pousse-pousse rickshaws and colonial atmosphere.
Accommodation: Couleur Café, Plumeria Hotel Antsirabe, or similar
Depart early for the long scenic drive toward western Madagascar. The landscapes change from cool highlands to warmer dry country, with open hills, villages and western vegetation.
Arrive in Morondava in the late afternoon or evening. This coastal town is the gateway to Kirindy Forest, Baobab Avenue and the Tsingy route.
Accommodation: Palissandre Côte Ouest, Chez Maggie, or similar
After breakfast, drive toward Kirindy Forest through dry landscapes, villages and baobab scenery. Kirindy is one of Madagascar’s most important dry-forest wildlife sites and one of the best places to search for the fossa.
In the afternoon, begin wildlife exploration with your guide. Possible sightings include Verreaux’s sifaka, red-fronted brown lemur, birds, reptiles and dry-forest species. In the evening, enjoy a guided night walk for mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs, geckos, chameleons, insects and nocturnal birds.
Accommodation: Relais du Kirindy, or similar
Start early with a guided morning walk in Kirindy Forest. Morning is the best time to look for active lemurs, birds, reptiles and signs of fossa activity.
After the visit, continue by private 4x4 toward Bekopaka. The route includes dry forest, baobab landscapes, western villages, ferry crossings and red-earth tracks. Stop at Baobab Amoureux for photos before continuing to the Tsingy region.
Accommodation: Orchidée du Bemaraha, Olympe du Bemaraha, or similar
After breakfast, begin with a traditional pirogue excursion on the Manambolo River. The gorge offers limestone cliffs, caves, river birds, reflections and beautiful scenery for photography.
Later in the morning, visit the Small Tsingy. This shorter limestone circuit includes dry forest pockets, narrow stone passages and viewpoints, giving a first introduction to the Bemaraha landscape before the Grand Tsingy.
Accommodation: Orchidée du Bemaraha, Olympe du Bemaraha, or similar
Start early for the Grand Tsingy, the most dramatic section of Tsingy de Bemaraha. With a local guide, explore limestone corridors, caves, viewpoints, suspension bridges and dry forest sections.
The scenery is spectacular and very photogenic. Possible wildlife includes Decken’s sifaka, brown lemurs, birds, reptiles and chameleons. In the evening, enjoy a Bekopaka night walk for mouse lemurs, chameleons, geckos, frogs, spiders and nocturnal insects.
Accommodation: Orchidée du Bemaraha, Olympe du Bemaraha, or similar
After breakfast, leave Bekopaka and begin the long 4x4 return journey toward Morondava. The route passes dry landscapes, villages, ferry crossings and baobab scenery.
The day is timed for sunset at the Avenue of the Baobabs. This is one of Madagascar’s most iconic photography moments, with giant baobabs silhouetted against golden and orange western light.
Accommodation: Palissandre Côte Ouest, Chez Maggie, or similar
After breakfast, begin the long return journey toward the central highlands. The route gradually changes from hot western plains to cooler highland scenery, rice terraces and red-earth villages.
Arrive in Antsirabe in the late afternoon or evening and enjoy a quieter highland atmosphere after the western wildlife and Tsingy section.
Accommodation: Couleur Café, Plumeria Hotel Antsirabe, or similar
After breakfast, enjoy a short Antsirabe visit if timing allows, with possible craft, gemstone or market stops.
Continue north to Antananarivo through highland villages and rice fields. On arrival, check in at the hotel and enjoy free time for packing, souvenir shopping or a farewell dinner.
Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux, Palissandre Hotel, San Cristobal Boutique Hotel, or similar
After breakfast, transfer to Ivato International Airport for your international departure.
Depending on flight time, a final craft market stop, city viewpoint or day-use arrangement can be organized. The tour ends after a focused western wildlife journey through Kirindy, Manambolo Gorge, Tsingy de Bemaraha and the Avenue of the Baobabs.
