Welcome to Madagascar. On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your national accompanying guide and transferred to your hotel in Antananarivo.
The rest of the day is kept relaxed after the international flight. Depending on arrival time, a short briefing can be arranged to introduce the rainforest route, wildlife timing, photography rhythm and walking conditions.
Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux, Palissandre Hotel, San Cristobal Boutique Hotel, or similar
After breakfast, drive east along the RN2 through highland villages, rice fields and greener eastern landscapes.
Stop at Peyrieras Reserve, a good first wildlife introduction with chameleons, geckos, frogs, butterflies and reptiles. Continue to Andasibe and settle into the cool rainforest atmosphere.
Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, Feon’ny Ala Hotel, or similar
Start early for a guided rainforest walk in Analamazaotra Reserve, one of the best places to hear and possibly see the Indri Indri.
With a local guide, search for lemurs, birds, orchids, chameleons, frogs and rainforest plants. The pace can be adapted for wildlife observation, birdwatching or photography.
Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, Feon’ny Ala Hotel, or similar
Enjoy a second wildlife day in the Andasibe area with a visit to Vakona Park / Private Reserve. This visit is easier and very useful for relaxed lemur observation and photography.
Depending on the final arrangement, the visit may include lemur areas, forest paths, lakeside scenery and possible chameleons, frogs, birds and tropical plants. An optional night walk can be arranged in the evening.
Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge, Mantadia Lodge, Feon’ny Ala Hotel, or similar
After breakfast, leave Andasibe and return toward the central highlands. The scenery changes from humid rainforest to rice terraces, red-earth villages and mountain landscapes.
Continue to Antsirabe, a pleasant highland town known for cool weather, rickshaws, gemstones and artisan workshops.
Accommodation: Couleur Café, Plumeria Hotel Antsirabe, or similar
Continue south through the highlands, with scenery of rice terraces, villages and rolling hills.
Stop in Ambositra, Madagascar’s woodcarving center, before continuing toward Ranomafana. The landscape becomes greener and more humid as you approach the rainforest region.
Accommodation: Setam Lodge, Thermal Hotel, Centrest Sejour, or similar
Start early for a guided visit of Ranomafana National Park, one of Madagascar’s richest rainforest ecosystems.
With a local guide, search for Golden Bamboo Lemur, red-bellied lemur, Milne-Edwards’ sifaka, birds, chameleons, frogs, orchids and tropical vegetation. The trail choice can be adapted to guest fitness and interests.
Accommodation: Setam Lodge, Thermal Hotel, Centrest Sejour, or similar
A second day in Ranomafana improves the chance for wildlife observation and photography, especially for lemurs, birds, frogs, chameleons and orchids.
The local guide may choose a different trail from the previous day. Birdwatchers can start early, while photography and herpetology interests can be adjusted according to weather and forest activity.
Accommodation: Setam Lodge, Thermal Hotel, Centrest Sejour, or similar
After breakfast, leave Ranomafana and return toward the central highlands. The route passes green hills, rice terraces, villages and highland scenery.
A stop can be made again in Ambositra for lunch, coffee or a final craft visit before continuing to Antsirabe for a comfortable overnight.
Accommodation: Couleur Café, Plumeria Hotel Antsirabe, or similar
After breakfast, enjoy a short Antsirabe visit if timing allows, with possible craft, gemstone or local market stops.
Continue north to Antananarivo through highland villages and rice fields. On arrival, transfer to the hotel for rest, souvenir shopping or a farewell dinner.
Accommodation: Relais des Plateaux, Palissandre Hotel, San Cristobal Boutique Hotel, or similar
After breakfast, transfer to Ivato International Airport for your international departure.
