The journey begins in Antananarivo and Andasibe, where tropical forest, Indri Indri calls and rich biodiversity create a powerful introduction. It then crosses the central highlands to Morondava, Kirindy and Tsingy de Bemaraha before following the wild coastal track through Belo-sur-Mer, Manja, Andavadoaka, Salary Bay and Ifaty.
The final section turns inland to Isalo National Park, Anja Reserve and Ranomafana rainforest before returning through Ambositra, Antsirabe and Antananarivo. 22-Day Detailed Itinerary

On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. This first day is kept relaxed after the international flight, with time to settle in and recover before the overland journey begins.
Depending on arrival time, your guide can provide a short welcome briefing covering the route, national parks, road conditions, luggage advice, and the rhythm of the expedition.

After breakfast, leave the capital and drive east along the RN2 toward Andasibe. The scenery changes from highland rice fields and red-earth villages to greener hills and humid rainforest landscapes.
A stop may be arranged near Marozevo for a short visit focused on reptiles, chameleons, butterflies, and other endemic species. Continue to Andasibe and settle into the cooler forest atmosphere. In the evening, a guided night walk may be arranged to search for nocturnal lemurs, frogs, chameleons, and insects.

Start early with a guided visit to Analamazaotra Reserve, one of Madagascar’s best places to hear and observe the Indri Indri. The forest also offers excellent chances to see other lemurs, birds, orchids, reptiles, amphibians, and rich tropical vegetation.
In the afternoon, continue exploring the Andasibe area. Depending on road conditions and guest fitness, the program may include Mantadia National Park or a nearby community/private reserve for another rainforest experience.

After breakfast, return west toward Antananarivo and continue south along the RN7. The route crosses highland landscapes, terraced rice fields, brick villages, market towns, and cultivated valleys.
A stop can be made in Ambatolampy, known for traditional aluminum workshops. Continue to Antsirabe, a relaxed former spa town famous for its cool climate, colonial architecture, pousse-pousse rickshaws, gemstone workshops, and highland atmosphere.

Depart early for the long scenic drive toward western Madagascar. The route passes through Miandrivazo and gradually descends from the cool central highlands into warmer, drier landscapes.
The scenery becomes increasingly open, with hills, river valleys, villages, grasslands, and western vegetation. Arrive in Morondava in the late afternoon or evening, depending on road conditions.

Leave early by 4x4 for one of the major expedition transfers. The route north passes dry forest, baobab landscapes, villages, and red tracks. A short morning photo stop may be made at the Avenue of the Baobabs, while the main sunset visit is planned for the return.
Continue to Belo-sur-Tsiribihina for the ferry crossing, then follow rough tracks toward Bekopaka, the gateway to Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. Arrival depends on road and ferry conditions.

Today is dedicated to the spectacular limestone landscapes of Tsingy de Bemaraha. In the morning, explore the Big Tsingy while temperatures are cooler. This adventurous circuit includes limestone corridors, ladders, viewpoints, safety harness sections, narrow passages, and suspension bridges.
After lunch and a short rest, continue with the Small Tsingy in the afternoon. This shorter circuit offers another perspective on the karst landscape, with dry-forest pockets, viewpoints, and striking limestone formations.

Begin the day with a traditional pirogue excursion on the Manambolo River, offering peaceful views of limestone cliffs, canyon scenery, caves, river birds, and the wider Tsingy landscape.
After the excursion, return to Bekopaka and drive south by 4x4 toward Kirindy. The journey includes rough tracks and ferry crossings, so timing remains flexible. On arrival, join a guided night walk to search for mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs, chameleons, geckos, nocturnal birds, and other dry-forest wildlife.

Start with a guided morning walk in Kirindy Reserve. The dry forest may reveal Verreaux’s sifakas, red-fronted brown lemurs, birds, reptiles, baobabs, and distinctive western plants.
After the visit, drive back toward Morondava. The route is timed for sunset at the Avenue of the Baobabs, one of Madagascar’s most iconic photography moments, where the giant trees become silhouettes against golden and purple skies.

After breakfast, begin the remote coastal 4x4 section toward Belo-sur-Mer. The track crosses sandy roads, salt flats, mangroves, coastal vegetation, and fishing-village landscapes.
Belo-sur-Mer is a peaceful Vezo village known for its lagoon scenery, maritime traditions, and traditional boat-building. On arrival, check in and enjoy the slower rhythm of the west coast.

Enjoy a relaxed day in Belo-sur-Mer. The program can be adapted according to tide, weather, and local availability, with time for the beach, lagoon views, village atmosphere, or optional local activities.
This pause balances the expedition pace after the Tsingy, Kirindy, and long 4x4 days, while offering a genuine cultural experience in a traditional coastal setting.

Continue deeper into remote southwest Madagascar. The route leaves the immediate coast and crosses dry countryside, sandy tracks, baobab-dotted areas, villages, and seasonal riverbeds.
This is a true adventure-transfer day. Manja is used as a practical overnight stop to keep the pace safe and realistic between Belo-sur-Mer and the next coastal region.
Accommodation: Best available local hotel or guesthouse in Manja
Depart early for another full 4x4 expedition day through remote western and southwestern landscapes. The road passes toward Morombe before continuing to Andavadoaka.
As the route approaches the coast again, the scenery opens into turquoise lagoons, fishing canoes, coral reef views, and peaceful beach landscapes. Andavadoaka is one of the most beautiful coastal stops on this wild route.
Accommodation: Laguna Blu, Manga Lodge, or similar
After breakfast, enjoy a slower morning on the coast. Depending on tide and weather, optional activities may include beach time, a village walk, snorkeling, or a short local excursion.
Later, continue south toward Salary Bay, following sandy coastal tracks through dunes, scrub vegetation, fishing villages, and changing sea colors. The lagoon scenery is among the most attractive in southwest Madagascar.
Accommodation: Hôtel Salary Bay or similar
Leave Salary Bay and continue toward Ifaty/Mangily, completing the wild coastal track. The route gradually approaches the more accessible southwest beach region near Toliara.
If timing allows, visit Reniala Spiny Forest Reserve near Ifaty. This protected dry forest reveals baobabs, spiny plants, birds, reptiles, and species specially adapted to the arid southwest.

After breakfast, leave the coast and drive inland toward Isalo. The road passes through Toliara and continues along the RN7 through dry southern landscapes.
If time permits, a stop can be made at Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park, a valuable dry-forest site for birds, lemurs, reptiles, and transition-zone habitats. Continue through Ilakaka before the sandstone massifs of Isalo appear on the horizon.

Spend the day exploring Isalo National Park, known for sandstone formations, deep canyons, natural pools, dry forests, and open savannah-like scenery.
The visit can be adapted to guest fitness. A classic circuit may include canyon trails, viewpoints, natural swimming pools, and areas where ring-tailed lemurs or sifakas may be observed. A sunset stop at the Window of Isalo can be arranged if conditions allow.

Continue north along the RN7 through wide southern landscapes and granite formations near Ambalavao. Stop at Anja Community Reserve, one of the best places to observe ring-tailed lemurs in a community-managed natural setting.
After the visit, continue through Ambalavao and Fianarantsoa before reaching Ranomafana, where the climate becomes cooler, greener, and more humid.

Start early for a guided rainforest walk in Ranomafana National Park. This important protected area is known for dense forest, bamboo habitat, rivers, waterfalls, and remarkable biodiversity.
