Kirindy Forest supports one of Madagascar's richest assemblages of dry-forest fauna. It hosts lemurs, reptiles, birds, and nocturnal species. It is also one of the best places to search for the fossa, Madagascar's top predator.
The forest experiences a pronounced dry season from May to October and a shorter rainy period from November to April. Many trees lose their leaves during the dry months to conserve water, creating a seasonal landscape that changes dramatically throughout the year.
Kirindy is one of the last extensive tracts of western dry forest, an ecosystem threatened by logging, fire, and agricultural expansion. Conservation programs and research help protect its unique biodiversity.
Accessible from Morondava, Kirindy has become a key destination for ecotourism and wildlife observation. Visitors can explore day trails and night walks that reveal the forest's nocturnal life.
